About the panelists
Constantine G. Soras, Ph.D.
Dr. Soras has more than 25 years of experience in economic forecasting, industry and competitive analysis, financial analysis and planning, mergers & acquisitions, quantitative analysis and consulting. He has worked for various multi-billion dollar corporations, which include Merrill Lynch, Chemical Bank and Verizon Communications.
Currently, he is a Senior Staff Consultant responsible for the review and analysis of investment proposals for mergers and acquisitions, dispositions and development. Also provides economic analysis at the request of CEO, CFO.
At Chemical Bank, he was a senior industry economist providing short-term and long-term industry analysis and forecasting for credit and lending decisions. The automobile study resulted in reversal of an earlier recommendation to the Board of Directors to terminate lending to specific U.S. automobile companies. The Electric utility study changed the adverse publicity on the industry in the mid-80's and redirected the focus on long-term issues. The study prompted a U.S. Senate hearing entitled "When Will the Lights Go Out?"
At Merril Lynch he was an economist responsible for econometric modeling and consulting. He restructured Merrill's large scale econometric model of the U.S. economy.
Constantine holds a MA and Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University and a BA in mathematics from the University of Patras, Greece.
Dr. Soras is a panelist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's Survey of Professional Forecasters, for Business Week's Outlook and the macro-forecast panel of the National Association for Business Economics.
Named most accurate U.S. economic forecaster for 2005 by Business Week and was the third best U.S. economic forecaster for 2006. His real GDP growth for 2006 was right on the money.
Demetri Papacostas
Mr. Papacostas has extensive experience in developing and running profitable FX & Derivative businesses. His experience is focused on FX derivative products, in trading, structuring and selling to large and small corporations as well as to individual investors.
Mr. Papacostas recently joined Bloomberg as an FX Derivative Product specialist.
Prior to Bloomberg, Mr. Papacostas was at JPMorgan where he ran the Commercial Bank FX sales team in New York. As a Managing Director and Head of Currency Derivative Sales, Mr. Papacostas created a profitable FX derivative sales business to compliment a top tier trading operation.
He established a successful global FX derivative sales business for ABN AMRO by creating a global infrastructure and effectively leveraging the existing sales force to promote FX derivatives.
During his 26 years experience in the financial industry he has established very successful trading operations. He managed currency option and precious metal trading and sales operations as Chief Dealer for other major financial institutions including, Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of America, UBS and Marine Midland.
He has a BA from New York University in Economics and Computer Science and an MBA from Pace University.
Mr. Anastasiou has 30 years of experience in the financial industry and has experienced several market cycles. Currently he is a "Premier Advisor" with Wachovia Securities where he holds the title of Managing Director of Investments. He and his team manage a portfolio of several hundred million dollars, primarily in private client assets.
Prior to the merger with Wachovia, Mr. Anastasiou was at Prudential Securities where he served on the Chairman's and President's Council for many years.
He has been a frequent speaker at Prudential and Wachovia regional meetings.
At Prudential Securities, Mr. Anastasiou was a Charter Member of the FA Advisory Council whose purpose was to advise the President & Senior Management on company policy & programs. He was also a Co-Chair on the Research subcommittee.
Mr. Anastasiou has sat on various Boards of Directors and Boards of Trustees, including Muhlenberg Hospital, Cyprus Children's Fund and the Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church.
He has a BA Degree from Rutgers in Economics, History and minor in English.
The Hellenic American Bankers Association, Inc. (HABA) is one of the premier Greek-American organizations in the New York metropolitan area. HABA is a not-for-profit organization established in 1982 to promote the professional and educational interests of Greek-Americans in the banking and finance industries. Its current active membership consists of approximately 200 professionals representing more dozens of institutions across the financial services spectrum.
